One2one - How We Work

Classes

Whilst most academies focus on group classes, we exclusively offer one-to-one instruction tailored to each student’s individual needs and learning pace. This personalised approach enables our tutors to address specific strengths and areas for improvement, ensuring that each lesson is highly effective and tailored to the student’s needs.

WhatsApp

There are many platforms available for online learning, including Zoom, WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and others. After experimenting with different options, we have found that WhatsApp best suits our teaching style. We primarily use WhatsApp because it automatically stores all chat messages, including lesson notes, homework assignments, and shared resources. Having this permanent record is extremely valuable for both students and tutors, as it enables easy reference to previous content, tracking of progress, and revisiting of important materials at any time.

One2one – Rules

We believe in keeping our rules simple and straightforward, focusing only on what is necessary to ensure a positive learning experience for everyone. We have just a few important guidelines, all of which are designed to be fair and respectful to both students and tutors.

Important

Punctuality is important. Please make sure to join your class on time. If you are running late, we will wait for up to fifteen minutes after the scheduled start time. After that, we will have to move on to the next scheduled class out of respect for other students’ time and our tutors’ schedules. Missed classes due to lateness will not be rescheduled or refunded. If you need to cancel or reschedule a class, please notify us at least twenty-four hours in advance. Any cancellations or requests to reschedule made less than twenty-four hours before the class will unfortunately be considered too late and the session will be counted as taken. This policy helps us manage our schedule and provide equal opportunities to all students.

Exam Pack

Each pack of classes comes with an expiry date, clearly stated at the time of purchase. This ensures that we can efficiently prepare lesson materials, allocate time for homework, and plan our schedule in advance. It also helps us manage our capacity and welcome new students into the program. If your class pack expires before all sessions are used, any remaining bookings will be cancelled and the time slots will be made available to other students. We encourage you to keep track of your expiry date and schedule your classes accordingly so you can make the most of your lessons.

One2one – Website

Our website features a regularly updated blog where you can find a wide range of valuable resources, including previously published homework assignments, study tips, and free learning materials. We encourage you to visit the blog frequently, as we continually add new content to support your learning outside of class. By checking in regularly, you’ll have access to useful materials that can help you reinforce what you’ve learned and stay motivated on your educational journey.

One2one – Homework

Homework assignments will be posted regularly in our social media groups. We encourage all students to follow these groups to stay up to date with the latest tasks and announcements. Our approach includes providing live corrections and feedback during or after class, helping you quickly identify areas for improvement. Whenever possible, we also share model answers, so you can compare your work and gain a clearer understanding of what is expected. This combination of real-time feedback and example solutions supports your progress and helps you achieve your learning goals efficiently.

Balance

No two students are the same, and we recognise that everyone has unique learning needs and goals. However, as a general guideline, we recommend taking two classes per week to maintain steady progress. In addition to your lessons, it’s important to dedicate at least two extra hours each week to independent study, such as reviewing class notes, completing homework, and practising new skills. This balance of structured instruction and self-directed learning will help you maximise the benefits of your studies and achieve your personal objectives.

One2one – Teachers

Our teaching team comprises two fully qualified language instructors, each with over a decade of professional experience, dating back to 2011. Both instructors are originally from Central London and speak with clear, neutral British accents, making their speech easy to understand for learners from around the world. Their extensive teaching backgrounds ensure lessons are engaging and effective, while their empathetic and encouraging communication style helps students feel comfortable and confident. This focus on clarity and support not only makes learning enjoyable but also provides students with an excellent model for accurate pronunciation and natural spoken English.

One2one – Achieving band 7 and beyond

Achieving good scores in exams is not like buying something from a supermarket shelf. You will need hard work, consistency and commitment. You should start with a study plan and work on areas where you are not strong; it’s easy to focus on what you’re good at.

AI

AI operates based on algorithms and large data sets, which means it can often provide helpful suggestions or general feedback. However, the guidance you receive from AI tools may not always match the precise standards or expectations set by official exam boards. Automated feedback can overlook nuances in your responses and may not reflect the specific marking criteria used in real assessments. Additionally, AI cannot recreate the realistic time constraints, stress, and focus required during actual exam conditions. Practising under simulated exam situations with a qualified instructor offers the most reliable preparation for achieving your target scores.

How to buy a pack of classes

To purchase a ten-pack of classes, please visit our website. Here is the link.  When booking your classes, you will be shown class availability in your own time zone, so you do not need to convert the time. Choose your instructor and complete your booking.

Seven - Do You Feel Lucky?
Seven – Do You Feel Lucky?

Many consider seven a lucky number, but passing the IELTS exam requires skill.

Seven - Do You Feel Lucky?

While seven is often associated with luck, achieving a band seven requires skill. To reach a band seven, you should aim for a band eight.

Seven – Elements

The exam consists of four key elements: speaking, reading, writing, and listening. These elements are interconnected, and understanding this connection will prepare you to book your exam.

How many classes do I need?

That’s one of the million-dollar questions. As teachers, we can only assess that once we truly understand your level and needs. While this doesn’t directly answer your question, it’s essential to recognise that learning the strategies to pass this test and achieve the grade you desire is not as simple as going to a supermarket and buying something off the shelf.

Average

The average student takes two classes per week and needs to invest an additional 2 hours of private study time each week. This is based on our average student statistics for One2One Academy.

Seven – Commitment

An essential aspect of achieving your desired results is ensuring you have enough time, free from distractions. This commitment is crucial for success.

Resourses

There is a wealth of information available, especially on social media. This can often become confusing and overwhelming for students. Determining what is relevant and what is not can be a job in itself.

We only use original testing resources, which, to an extent, can save the student time. This is not unique by any means, but much of our original material is exclusive to us.

Energy - A light bulb moment
Energy – A Light bulb moment

Energy production is pivotal in shaping our modern society, but it also significantly impacts the environment.

Energy - a light bulb moment

Traditional methods, such as fossil fuel extraction and consumption, have been the backbone of industrial growth, providing high energy outputs.

These practices contribute to severe environmental issues, including air and water pollution, habitat destruction, and greenhouse gas emissions that drive climate change. As the world grapples with the urgent need for sustainable solutions, the necessity to transition towards cleaner energy sources has become increasingly clear.

Renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power, offer promising alternatives that can mitigate environmental damage while meeting global energy demands. These sources are inherently more sustainable, producing minimal emissions and reducing reliance on finite resources. Despite some challenges, such as intermittency and initial installation costs, the long-term benefits of investing in renewable energy far outweigh the drawbacks. By prioritising these sustainable methods, we can pave the way for a cleaner, healthier planet, ensuring energy security for future generations while addressing the pressing challenges of climate change.

11. Is the promotion of biofuels truly sustainable, or does it contribute to food shortages?

12. Should energy production be a public utility controlled by the government, or should it remain privatised?

13. Are the environmental impacts of offshore drilling justified by its economic benefits?

14. Should countries be allowed to trade carbon credits, or does this create a loophole for pollution?

15. Is investing in renewable technology more responsible or improving existing fossil fuel infrastructure?

Opportunities - Year To Remember

Opportunities

If you’re looking for a new opportunity, keep altering your CV according to the roles you have applied for. This will mean that you will need to keep making changes along the way, and although this can be a somewhat mundane task, the result will pay off.

Key points for a good CV profile:

Alter the text to suit the role.

  • Research the role:
  • Understand the specific requirements and keywords used in the job description. There is nothing like looking like you have applied some attention to detail.
  • Align your profile:
  • Emphasise skills, experience, and achievements that match the job’s needs. You are selling skills, and your potential employer is buying them.
  • Use keywords:
  • Incorporate relevant keywords from the job description to help your CV get noticed by Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). Keywords help you to stand out from your competition.

Showcase Value

  • Highlight key skills: List your most relevant and valuable skills, both technical and soft skills. Don’t choose skills that everyone will use; try to be unique.
  • Quantify achievements: Use numbers and data to demonstrate the impact of your work and accomplishments. This is your time to show off.
  • Showcase unique selling points: Emphasise what distinguishes you from other candidates. There is nothing wrong with showing off.

Keep it Concise and Clear.

  • Use bullet points. Your profile should be easy to read and scan, and your details should be attractive and concise.
  • Keep it short: Aim for a concise profile that captures your essence in a few sentences (around 3-5 lines).
  • Use strong action verbs: Start sentences with powerful verbs to describe your accomplishments and skills.

Target The Future

  • Express career aspirations: Briefly mention your career goals and how they align with the role and company. Your potential employer will invest in you and wants to see a return.
  • Show enthusiasm and passion: Convey your genuine interest in the industry and the company.
  • Proofread and edit: Ensure your profile is free of errors and typos. Check everything twice.

4-day work week – Lazy Workforce. Discussions surrounding work-life balance and employee well-being gain momentum, the concept of a 4-day work week is emerging as a transformative solution for the modern workforce. With the advent of remote work and changing attitudes towards traditional employment structures, many question whether the standard 5-day workweek is still relevant or if it is time for a significant change. This shift could bring about a more balanced and fulfilling work life for employees, while also benefiting employers through increased productivity and job satisfaction.

Supporters of the 4-day workweek argue it could unlock many benefits for employees and employers. Studies from companies that have piloted this model reveal promising results: increased productivity, enhanced job satisfaction, and improved mental health among workers. Employees report feeling more energised and focused, leading to higher output during their working hours. The extra day off allows individuals to recharge, pursue personal interests, or spend quality time with family—elements crucial for a balanced life.

Burnout

Moreover, advocates suggest that a 4-day workweek could play a pivotal role in combating burnout, a growing concern in today’s fast-paced work environment. By allowing employees to have longer weekends, companies could promote a healthier workplace culture that prioritises well-being over mere output. This shift could reduce absenteeism and health-related costs, ultimately benefiting the bottom line. The potential for a healthier and more balanced workplace culture is a hopeful prospect that could inspire further exploration of the 4-day workweek.

However, the transition to a shorter work week is not without its challenges. Critics point out that not all industries may be able to adapt seamlessly to this new model. Service-oriented sectors or those requiring constant coverage, such as healthcare and hospitality, may struggle to implement a 4-day schedule without sacrificing service quality or overburdening employees. It’s important to consider these challenges when discussing the potential benefits of a 4-day work week.

4-day work week – Lazy Workforce Small businesses

Additionally, there are concerns about the economic implications of a widespread transition. Would a 4-day workweek lead to decreased productivity in certain sectors? What about the impact on small businesses already operating on tight margins? These questions raise essential discussions about the feasibility and sustainability of such a change across various industries.

Cultural attitudes towards work also play a significant role in the acceptance of this model. Shifting perceptions may take time in societies that prioritize long working hours as a marker of success. However, as younger generations enter the workforce, their emphasis on work-life balance and meaningful work may accelerate the demand for more flexible arrangements.

Countries like Iceland and companies like Microsoft Japan have already embraced the 4-day work week, reporting remarkable outcomes. In Iceland’s trials, productivity remained the same or improved in the majority of workplaces, while Microsoft Japan saw a 40% boost in productivity during its 4-day workweek experiment.

4-day work week – Trend

As the conversation continues, it’s clear that the 4-day work week is more than just a trend; it represents a potential paradigm shift in how we view work. Businesses could promote a more engaged and productive workforce by prioritizing employee well-being and rethinking traditional working hours.

While the journey towards a 4-day work week may be complex, the potential benefits for employees and employers make it worthy of consideration. As we navigate the future of work, it’s time to explore innovative solutions that align with the evolving needs of our society.

4-day work week – Lazy Workforce New Era of Work?

Whether it becomes the norm or remains an aspirational goal, it invites us to rethink our relationship with work and its role in our lives.
